It does what the description says. IIRC, it said on their site that media-nommer was developed somewhat before Amazon Elastic Transcoder, which is a service for roughly the same purpose - transcoding media files from one format to another. This is useful for converting media from its original format to another format, more suitable for display on a particular type of computer or device.

Author of media-nommer here. For the sake of full disclosure, I will say that we've started moving away from media-nommer in favor of Elastic Transcoder. The project will remain, but probably won't be seeing active maintenance from us (DUO). However, pull requests will be reviewed and accepted.
Yes, I did see that info on your site / blog, though I had not mentioned it. I figured interested people would check all that out themselves.
