I saw this video of a talk by Tim Bray a few days ago on the Vitamin site. Vitamin is quite a good site for information on developing web applications.
Tim Bray is one of early pioneers of XML, founder of more than one startup, and is currently the Director of Web Technologies at Sun Microsystems.

In the video, he gives a lot of very sound advice (IMO) on what developers should do during the current global economic crisis.
