Some areas and jobs for which Python is used

[QUESTION] Occupation/What Company You Work For : Python

Seen on the Python subreddit - python.reddit.com .

Though I've known for some years now that Python is applicable to a wide variety of areas (search the web for "Python success stories" and for the new/upcoming Python Brochure from the Python Software Foundation), it was still interesting to see the diverse areas in which Python is being used, and for which there are jobs available, as discussed in the above Python Reddit thread.

Check user westurner's comments in the thread for many Python job links and searches.

Dear readers, my posts are likely to be less or None for a few days, since I'll be travelling.

Work From Home - wfh.io - beta

WFH.io - Work From Home Development, Operations, DevOps, and Support Job Listings

Seen via a recent Hacker News thread.

Interesting concept: wfh.io (Work From Home) is a site dedicated to only remote / telecommuting jobs, mainly for software development, operations, devops and customer support. Most of the jobs on the site seem to be for US-based companies, but most of the job posts mention that remote working is okay.

The Python Job Board

The Python Job Board is a service by and for the Python community / the Python Software Foundation.

Any person or organization can post a job on the Python Job Board, for free, as long as they follow the guidelines given there.

The board also has an RSS feed and a Twitter account, which are linked to from the board's web page.

I have got Python work in the past via the board.

It is a useful resource, including for those who prefer to telecommute.

I recently added my CV to it after getting an invite.

(No, I'm not looking for a job, so no recruiter  inquiries, please. Remote freelancing work of the right kind is of interest to me, though - particularly in Python,Unix/Linux and open source areas.)

They seem to have a somewhat different and better approach than many run-of-the-mill job sites.

Python Weekly's Python Jobs Site

Python Weekly Jobs - Python, Django, Web2py, Zope, Plone, Pylons, TurboGears

Just saw this. Looks like it can be useful for Pythonistas looking for work.

There is also the Python Job Board, of course, which has been around for a while, and is run by volunteers from the Python community:

The above page is a list of sites that mention Python jobs.

Python jobs sites all over the world will be listed in it.

It is an initiative from the Python Software Foundation.

Seen via the PSF-Members mailing list.

One of the people on the list mentioned that he is seeing many Python job postings from the OpenStack Foundation.

So check it all out if you are looking for a Python programming job.

CrowdHired launched by Skorks and two others

CrowdHired is a new startup that recently launched. The team consists of Alan Skorkin, a Ukrainian software developer from Kharkiv (Kharkov) who now lives in Australia and blogs at http://www.skorks.com . I've read some of his blog posts earlier and found them interesting. Many of them are on the topic of software craftsmanship, and one was about writing a web spider in Ruby, IIRC.

Though I haven't checked out CrowdHired in detail yet (I applied for an invite very recently), I read some of the description of it, and it seems to have an interesting approach to online hiring. As readers can guess from the name of the site, it seems to apply the concept of crowdsourcing to the area of hiring. How it does that is an exercise left to the reader :)
