I saw this site / company, SailThru.com, some days ago. It has what seems to be an innovative email-related product / web service, called TriggerMail.
I had done some work for a startup earlier in the area of email sending for invites / sign-ups, so I was intrigued by the fact that SailThru has made a business out of a product (TriggerMail) and services in this area. The TriggerMail product also has a REST-based API. The site says that "The API is easily integrated into PHP, Python, and Ruby".
As per the SailThru site, their clients include ChartBeat, bit.ly and 10gen - creators / commercial supporters of the open source database MongoDB, and SailThru itself uses MongoDB - according to the MongoDB site.
[ On a side note (about MongoDB), I read recently that CERN (the place where Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web) is using MongoDB for the Large Hadron Collider. ]
SailThru also has another product, GetConnect, which provides a unified API for sending emails to contacts in your address books of some of the major email providers. This one also seems like a neat idea.
