I just read this Wikipedia article about the Bering Strait. It was interesting.
Below is a picture of the Diomede islands in the Bering Strait; Little Diomede island on the left is part of the USA and Big Diomede island on the right is part of Russia:
The distance between the two islands is only 2.4 kilometers.
Scientists speculate that the first Americans (American Indians) crossed from Siberia to Alaska over the Bering Straits ages ago over a land bridge, and thus, in waves of migration, populated North America.
